Sudan Cancels Agreement with UAE for “Abu Amama” Port Construction

Sudan Events – Agencies
On Sunday, Sudan’s Finance Minister, Jibril Ibrahim, announced the cancellation of an agreement with the UAE to build a port on the Red Sea coast. In a press conference in Port Sudan, the minister, who had initially signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the UAE for the “Abu Amama” port partnership, clarified that the memorandum was non-binding for Sudan. He stated, “After what happened, we will not give the UAE a single centimeter on the Red Sea coast,” alluding to accusations of UAE support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Ibrahim, who also leads the Justice and Equality Movement, denied resigning as Finance Minister in protest over the dismissal of the Tax Authority’s director. He said, “We are still in our position, but we have reservations about the signals from our executive body. Reservations aren’t handled through resignations.”
