Egyptian Foreign Ministry: Water Security is Existential for Egypt and Sudan

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdel Ati, emphasized the special nature of the “Egyptian-Sudanese” relations, highlighting the deep historical ties between the two countries at both governmental and popular levels.
In a phone call with Sudan’s new acting Foreign Minister Dr. Ali Youssef Ahmed Al-Sharif on Monday, Abdel Ati reiterated Egypt’s full support for Sudanese institutions, stressing the importance of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
He emphasized that Egypt stands by Sudan in this challenging and historic moment until it overcomes this difficult phase.
Abdel Ati also underscored the critical nature of water issues for Egypt and Sudan, as downstream countries, noting that the countries share identical views regarding water security, which is existential for both nations.
