Al-Burhan Expresses Reservations About Some Red Cross Activities

On Wednesday, the Chairman of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mirjana Spoljaric, in the presence of the Acting Foreign Minister, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin.
The Acting Foreign Minister stated in a press statement that Mirjana Spoljaric’s visit to Sudan is part of an effort to assess the humanitarian situation in the country, noting that the meeting addressed the activities and operations of the ICRC in Sudan.
He added that the Chairman of the Sovereign Council raised several observations and reservations regarding some of the committee’s activities in Sudan during the meeting.
The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the meeting was candid and covered all the issues raised, expressing hope that in the upcoming period, there would be increased cooperation and more active participation from the ICRC in Sudan. He also pointed out that the Chairman of the Sovereign Council expressed Sudan’s readiness to enhance cooperation with the ICRC.
He explained that the ICRC President pledged to review the observations made by the Sovereign Council Chairman and to take them into consideration. Additionally, they agreed to establish a mechanism for transmitting the Sudanese government’s feedback on the ICRC’s activities, as well as the field requirements it wishes to receive from the government.
