Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The eastern regions of Al-Jazeera are facing an escalating humanitarian disaster due to the violent and ongoing attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces militia. The region is witnessing a systematic retaliatory campaign targeting civilians, resulting in the killing and forced displacement of thousands.
The preliminary committee of the Sudanese Doctors Syndicate stated in a statement that the health situation in the region has worsened alarmingly, as waterborne diseases have spread in the city of Al-Hilaliya and the surrounding areas. Those who remain of its residents are being held in mosques, leading to the death of more than 73 people so far.
The Al-Sabbagh Rural Hospital, which is the main station for providing medical care to the displaced, is suffering from an overwhelming influx of patients that exceeds its capacity, and it is experiencing a severe shortage of medical staff, medicines, and basic medical supplies.
The statement indicated that the displaced people in the city of Halfa Al-Jadida and its villages are in tragic conditions, as they sleep in the open without shelter or blankets, and lack sources of clean drinking water. The cases of watery diarrhea have increased to 158, with four fatalities, amid a near-total absence of government and humanitarian organization involvement.
The preparatory committee of the Sudanese Doctors’ Syndicate called on international organizations for immediate assistance in addressing this humanitarian tragedy. The concerned authorities were urged to take the necessary measures to provide protection for civilians and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected.
