High-Level Meeting in Libya Discusses Improving Conditions for Sudanese Refugees

Libya’s government and the United Nations held a meeting to discuss the status of Sudanese refugees, focusing on streamlining their registration with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and improving living conditions in camps around Kufra and southeastern Libya.
Libya’s Interior Minister, Major General Essam Abu Zareeba, met with UNHCR Deputy Representative in Libya, Edina Dezyho, and Protection Program Officer Omar Altayan at the Ministry of Interior.
The meeting addressed key issues, prioritizing refugee registration and discussing overall conditions in camps in Kufra and the southeastern areas. The participants agreed on the importance of cooperation between Libya’s Ministry of Interior and the UNHCR to meet the needs and uphold the rights of the refugees.
The UNHCR urged the Interior Minister to support its efforts and requested a high-level UNHCR delegation visit to Libya, scheduled for early next week.
