Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Ibrahim Jaber, a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief, called on the international community and the United Nations to encourage donors who pledged support at the Paris conference held in April 2024 to assist humanitarian efforts and facilitate the work of organizations providing aid to the Sudanese people.
On Wednesday, Jaber addressed the Second Humanitarian Response Briefing Forum, organized by the National Joint Committee for Humanitarian Emergencies, at the Coral Hotel.
He affirmed Sudan’s commitment to all laws, international humanitarian law, and international principles and charters, in service of humanity. He pointed out that due to the severe need facing the country, the Sudanese government took the initiative to open seven crossings, including the Adri border crossing, accusing the rebellious militia of misusing it. He added that the government has also opened seven airports to deliver humanitarian aid and facilitate the movement of UN agencies and their staff.
The Sovereignty Council member expressed his gratitude to the friendly and brotherly countries, UN agencies, and all who have supported the Sudanese people. He specifically thanked the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, for coordinating with the President of the Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to allow aid transport from Juba to Kadugli Airport for distribution to those in need. He noted that aid drops are currently underway in other areas near Kadugli.
Additionally, the Sovereignty Council member praised the contributions of national organizations helping displaced Sudanese citizens affected by destruction and displacement in Al-Jazirah state, and those who have taken refuge in areas like Fao, Sabag, Shendi, and Halfa.
