Member of the Sovereignty Council and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Shams al-Din Kabashi, praised Japan’s efforts to support and assist the Sudanese people during their crisis by providing humanitarian aid to those in need.
During his meeting in Port Sudan on Wednesday with Shinzo Shimizu, the Japanese Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Kabashi affirmed the Sudanese government’s full commitment to facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid and supporting relief teams and workers in the humanitarian sector.
The meeting addressed the situation in Sudan, developments on the ground, and the current crisis and its impact on the regional and international environment.
Discussions also highlighted the importance of coordination and enhancing joint cooperation between the two countries across all fields, with Sudan keen on advancing bilateral relations and expanding them to new horizons.
For his part, the Japanese envoy, in a press statement following the meeting, stated that the visit aims to launch Japan’s humanitarian assistance, which includes equipment, vehicles, and refrigerated trucks to transport vaccines to remote areas, especially cholera vaccines. He added that Japan aims to enhance cooperation and support the Sudanese people during this challenging period.
He noted that Japan is planning several new projects to improve water supply facilities and hospitals in the Red Sea and Kassala states, along with various development projects focused on supporting women, peace, security, and the economy in both the public and private sectors.
