Sudanese Foreign Minister: Ethiopia is a Sisterly Neighbor, and Our Only Option is Dialogue and Avoiding Exclusion

Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Sudanese Foreign Minister Ambassador Ali Youssef Al-Sharif described Ethiopia as a sisterly neighbor to Sudan, with its people sharing ties of blood, culture, and common interests with the Sudanese people—ties as old as the ancient civilizations of both countries. The Nile has always been at the heart of these relations, a source of good, love, and cooperation that must always continue to be so.
In a tweet on his account on Platform X, the minister said:
“Our mission is to make the Nile and the projects established on it a tool for integration and mutual benefits for all the peoples living along its banks. My personal dream is to one day see the formation of the ‘United States of the Nile,’ an idea introduced by one of Sudan’s diplomatic pioneers, Jamal Muhammad Ahmad, as a unifying entity for all Nile Basin countries and a cornerstone for the African Union project.”
He added: “However, we must consider and respect each other’s needs and concerns and avoid policies of exclusion and coercion. Our sole option is dialogue, dialogue based on established legal principles and binding agreements. Without this approach, the alternative would be further polarization and conflict that threatens stability—a scenario our peoples reject. Dialogue to maximize shared interests toward regional integration is what I have always called and worked for.”
