Official: More Than 9,000 Killed and Wounded in North Darfur Battles

The Director-General of the Ministry of Health in North Darfur announced on Saturday that the casualty statistics in the city of El Fasher from the ongoing battles have exceeded 9,000 civilians, including both the dead and the wounded, since the fighting erupted in April 2023.
Ibrahim Khater, the Director-General of the Ministry of Health in the state, told Sudan Tribune: “The number of injuries in El Fasher due to the fighting has reached 9,131, with 516 deaths from April 15, 2023, to November 21, 2024.”
He pointed out that the number of deaths might be higher than the figures recorded in hospitals, as more than 300 people were buried by their families before reaching the hospitals.
The official also discussed the major challenges facing hospitals in El Fasher, including shortages of medical staff, medicines, and supplies, along with systematic attacks by the RSF militia. Additionally, he mentioned the rising and fluctuating prices of basic goods and fuel, as well as their scarcity in the markets, and weak financial funding.
