The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander of the Army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, announced on Wednesday the formation of a special prosecution and court to investigate the sources of funds during the exchange of the new currency denominations.
According to a statement by the Sovereignty Council, as reported by Sudan Tribune, Al-Burhan decided to establish “a special prosecution and court to handle cases related to currency exchange, especially concerning investigations into the sources of funds, ensuring swift rulings for those proven guilty.”
The statement mentioned that Al-Burhan formed a high-level committee chaired by Sovereignty Council member Ibrahim Jaber to oversee the procedures for replacing the 1,000 SDG and 500 SDG denominations.
The committee includes the Ministers of Finance and Information, the Governor of the Central Bank, the Attorney General, and directors of the General Intelligence Service, Military Intelligence, Police, the Governor of Darfur, and the Registrar General of Companies.
The Sovereignty Council highlighted that the committee’s responsibilities include technical, security, and logistical arrangements for the currency replacement process, including setting the start date and exchange period.
The council also noted that the currency replacement will commence in the states of Red Sea, Kassala, Gedaref, River Nile, Northern, White Nile, and Blue Nile, with subsequent exchanges planned for areas liberated from the control of the Rapid Support Forces militia.
