Sudan Events – Follow-up
The Colombian Foreign Minister, Luis Gilberto Murillo, called his Sudanese counterpart, Ali Youssef Al-Sharif, to apologize for the involvement of mercenaries from his country fighting alongside the militia.
During the conversation, Minister Murillo offered his country’s apologies for the participation of some of its citizens in the war alongside the terrorist Janjaweed militia, condemning what he called the inappropriate actions of his fellow countrymen.
It is worth mentioning that, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Conference to Strengthen Humanitarian Response in Gaza in Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel-Atty met on Monday with his Colombian counterpart, Luis Gilberto Murillo, to exchange views on the situation in Sudan and the Middle East, and the need to de-escalate tensions in the region.
Regarding the phone call, the Colombian Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of cooperation between Sudan and Colombia to ensure the return of his country’s mercenaries to Colombia.
Meanwhile, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Youssef expressed his astonishment and sorrow over the participation of fighters from Colombia in the war against the Sudanese people.
He confirmed Sudan’s readiness to consider cooperation with the Colombian side to discuss how to address the issue and prevent its recurrence in the future.
