Ship Leaves Port Sudan Without Unloading Its Cargo

Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The ship “Future,” loaded with a 50,000-ton sugar shipment, left Port Sudan without unloading its cargo.
According to reports, the reason for the departure was the new financial procedures imposed by the Central Bank of Sudan, which stated that the wages of stevedores and other port workers should not be paid in cash but rather transferred to bank accounts.
Several port workers organized a protest earlier this week, giving the Central Bank of Sudan one week to address the issue. The Stevedores Association refused to unload the ship “Future,” which had been docked for four days before leaving the port.
