Sudan Events – Follow-ups
On Thursday, protesters blocked the international road linking Ausief to Port Sudan in protest against the decision of the Minister of Transport to dismiss Captain Mohamed Hassan Mukhtar from his position as Director-General of the Ports Authority.
The protestors gathered in front of the headquarters of the Marine Ports Authority.
On Wednesday, the acting Minister of Transport, Abubakar Abu Al-Qasim, issued a decision to relieve Captain Mohamed Hassan Mukhtar from his position and appointed Ibrahim Youssef Mohamed as the Acting Director-General of the Ports Authority until further notice.
The minister emphasized the importance of implementing the decision by the Marine Ports Authority and all relevant authorities, stressing the need for cooperation to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
The minister had previously annulled a decision by the Ports Authority’s Director-General to transfer Captain Taha Mukhtar, the Director of the Prince Osman Digna Port, and his deputy Abdullah Hussein, after citizens protested the decision.
The protestors considered the decision a personal attack on Captain Taha Mukhtar, and they demanded his reinstatement, describing the decision as “spiteful” and lacking clear standards.
