Sudan Events – Follow-ups
On Monday, the member of the Sovereign Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Army, General Engineer Ibrahim Jaber Ibrahim, chaired the meeting of the Higher Committee for Currency Exchange and Replacement in Port Sudan.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the currency replacement process in recent days and listened to reports from the Economic Crimes Prosecution and the central committee regarding counterfeit currencies.
The meeting stressed the importance of raising awareness among citizens in the targeted states about the need to open bank accounts and shift towards electronic transactions instead of relying on cash. The meeting confirmed that the currency replacement process is a national issue, aimed at protecting the state from the infiltration attempts of the Rapid Support Forces, which have sought to destroy and sabotage the national economy through regional and international conspiracies.
Minister of Culture and Information and official government spokesman Khaled Al-Aisr, in a press statement, stated that the meeting discussed several important issues, including the report from the Central Bank about the counterfeit currencies, which were all part of the withdrawn 1000 and 500-pound notes, and not the notes as misrepresented by some circles and opportunists.
Al-Aisr further noted that the meeting heard the report from the Ministry of Finance about the arrangements taken to implement Cabinet decisions Nos. 149 and 150 of 2024, concerning the payment of salaries for public sector workers and settling payments for both the public and private sectors.
The meeting decided to form a central committee to follow up on the implementation of these decisions and coordinate with central committees in other states.
