Germany increases arms exports to Ukraine and reduces them to Israel

According to data from the German Ministry of Economy released on Wednesday, the government has increased arms exports to Ukraine this year by two-fold, while cutting them by half to Israel compared to 2023, according to Reuters.
As the main recipient of weapons, Ukraine has received arms and other military equipment worth 8.1 billion euros ($8.48 billion), up from 4.4 billion euros last year.
Preliminary data from the ministry up until Tuesday revealed that Germany has approved arms exports worth 13.2 billion euros this year.
The number of approvals for arms exports to Israel dropped to 161 million euros, coinciding with a lawsuit filed by human rights groups concerned about the potential use of these weapons in the Gaza war.
Data from the Ministry of Economy, which grants export licenses, showed that last year, Germany approved arms exports, including military equipment and weapons, to Israel worth 326.5 million euros, representing a tenfold increase compared to 2022.
The government reviews each arms export case individually, approving 1.2 billion euros for Singapore, just under 559 million euros for Algeria, and 230 million euros for Turkey.
