Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Federal Minister of Health, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, warned of radiation and environmental hazards due to the systematic destruction by the Rapid Support Forces militia of radiation therapy centers in Khartoum and Madani, which were used for cancer treatment. The militia also targeted the Estak building, which houses laboratories and virus incubators, posing a risk to public health.
The minister indicated during the weekly awareness platform on the violations of the Rapid Support Forces (health sector), organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information on Saturday in Port Sudan, that the Khartoum and Madani cancer treatment centers were providing services to 75% of patients before the war. The only treatment center still operational is the Meroe Center, after the Shendi radiation therapy center was shut down. He also mentioned that centers in Nyala and El Fasher were no longer functioning due to the destruction and sabotage caused by the militia.
