Consumer Committee Discusses Gas Issues in Northern State

Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Director of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Authority in Northern State, Abdelazim Ismail, chaired the fifth meeting of the Higher Committee for Consumer Affairs, attended by members from relevant bodies.
The meeting discussed issues concerning cooking gas, as consumers’ complaints about the distribution process between agents and retailers were numerous. The aim was to define work windows, share suggestions, and propose solutions to minimize these issues, ensuring consumer rights are upheld.
The meeting also addressed general technical problems with gas cylinders (leakages and maintenance), issues with agents and representatives, storage problems, storage and distribution issues, and traditional consumer practices that negatively affect gas use.
Several solutions were reached, including obligating companies to prioritize the maintenance of their cylinders, using digital guns and electronic gas filling machines with weight readings on the screen, constant calibration, and implementing awareness and guidance programs for consumers.
Abdelazim confirmed coordination with all committee members and related bodies to preserve consumer rights in the state.
