The Central Bank of Sudan has prohibited banks from financing the federal government, state governments, exchange companies, and money transfer firms.
According to its monetary policy for 2025, the Central Bank banned financing foreign currency trading, the purchase of stocks and securities, settling existing or non-performing loans, trading in telecommunications balances, and purchasing land and real estate except where permitted. It also prohibited financing the purchase of vehicles, except under regulated guidelines, and banned financing gold purchases and derivatives. Local trade financing was also restricted, except for strategic goods, solar energy panels and batteries, production inputs, and capital machinery and equipment for economic sectors.
