On Saturday, the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burhan Din Duran, in the presence of Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ali Youssef and Turkey’s Ambassador to Sudan.
Ambassador Ali Youssef stated in a press statement that the meeting addressed the bilateral relations between Sudan and Turkey and areas of mutual cooperation. He noted that the meeting also discussed the Turkish initiative that was presented by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the Chairman of the Sovereign Council. He emphasized that the initiative is part of efforts to achieve peace in Sudan. The Chairman of the Sovereign Council welcomed this initiative and asked the Turkish minister to convey his welcome to President Erdoğan and the Turkish Foreign Minister, who is overseeing the details of managing the initiative.
Ambassador Ali Youssef added that during his visit, the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister held several meetings with Sudan’s ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance, and Economic Planning. He pointed out that this visit is significant, reflecting the hopes and aspirations of both the Turkish government and people toward Sudan.
The Foreign Minister mentioned that these meetings discussed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries. The Turkish minister indicated that Turkey is about to open a Turkish bank in Port Sudan to strengthen and enhance commercial ties, in addition to opening a headquarters for the Turkish Aid Organization, which provides developmental and humanitarian assistance globally.
He revealed that three ships carrying thousands of tons of humanitarian aid have arrived in Sudan.
The Foreign Minister confirmed that this visit by the Turkish minister will have positive impacts on supporting the relationship between Sudan and Turkey.
He noted that the Turkish initiative could lead to genuine efforts to achieve peace in Sudan.
On his part, the Turkish envoy expressed his happiness at visiting Sudan, indicating that he had held fruitful and positive meetings with the Foreign, Finance, and Economic Planning ministers. He extended his congratulations to the government and people of Sudan on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of independence. He noted that Turkey and Sudan share common historical values and reaffirmed Turkey’s support for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as its support for all regional and international initiatives aimed at addressing the Sudanese crisis.
He said that Turkey is making significant efforts to achieve peace and stability in Sudan, pointing out that Turkey’s approach to ending the war in Sudan is clear, thanks to the distinguished relations between the two countries.
He added that what Turkey is doing requires joint efforts, followed by working to unite regional actors and overcoming difficulties in resolving the conflict in Sudan.
He affirmed that the presence of the Turkish embassy in Sudan since the outbreak of the war and its operations in Port Sudan is evidence of Turkey’s determination to stand by Sudan and its people.
The Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister explained that the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) is currently working to reopen its offices in Port Sudan, in addition to opening a branch of the Turkish Agricultural Bank.
He highlighted the contributions of Turkish governmental and non-governmental aid agencies in providing humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people. He also mentioned the operation of the Turkish hospital in Nyala, which continues to provide services to citizens.
He disclosed that three Turkish ships carrying 8,000 tons of humanitarian aid had arrived in Port Sudan.
