Sudan Events – Reports
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the U.S. sanctions imposed on the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
In a press statement, the Ministry said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciates the U.S. government’s conclusion that the Janjaweed militia and its allies have committed genocide in Sudan. We welcome the sanctions imposed on the militia leader, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, and seven commercial companies owned by the militia in the UAE.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized its agreement with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s statement, that Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo is responsible for the systematic atrocities against the Sudanese people, including mass rapes, and that the militia’s commercial fronts, which are used to finance its war, are located in the UAE.
The Ministry further noted that the U.S. Treasury Department’s statement highlighted that the militia uses the deprivation of aid to civilians as a weapon in its war against the Sudanese people and systematically violates international humanitarian law and the Jeddah Declaration signed in May 2023.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on other countries to take similar steps against the militia’s leadership and its sponsors, urging the international community to adopt a unified and firm stance against this terrorist group to force it to stop its war against the Sudanese people, the state, and its national institutions.
