The Chairman of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, held a bilateral meeting on Monday evening at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, Mauritania, with the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and current Chairman of the African Union, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani.
During the talks, they reviewed the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and discussed ways to enhance them, in addition to discussing several regional and international issues, particularly the developments in Sudan.
Al-Burhan provided an explanation to the African Union Chairman about the developments in Sudan following the rebellion of the Daqlo militia against the Sudanese state and its institutions. He said, “Sudan is facing a conspiracy by international and regional parties aimed at undermining its unity and dignity,” stressing that the Sudanese people will stand against this conspiracy to foil these plans. He added that the terrorist militia has committed genocide against the Sudanese people, violating all humanitarian norms.
Al-Burhan praised the prominent role played by the Mauritanian President in supporting Sudan in regional and international forums, affirming the strong historical relations between the two countries. He said, “We will work to strengthen and develop these relations to achieve the common interests of both countries,” emphasizing the importance of these relations in light of the challenges facing the region.
For his part, the Mauritanian President, as the African Union Chairman, expressed his warm welcome and pride in the visit of the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, confirming that the visit reflects the level of historical relations between the two brotherly countries.
He affirmed his country’s support for Sudan’s security and stability to overcome the challenges it faces, end the war, and bring peace to Sudan, from the deep historical ties between the two nations. He stressed his country’s commitment to strengthening and developing cooperation between the two countries in all fields, underlining the importance of the unity and territorial integrity of Sudan.
