Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Vice-President of the Sovereignty Council, Malik Aqar, condemned the U.S. Treasury Department’s decision to impose sanctions on Sudan’s Sovereign Council President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, describing it as malicious and targeting Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.
Speaking in Port Sudan on Sunday during spontaneous marches protesting the U.S. sanctions against Al-Burhan, Aqar called for greater cohesion and national unity to prevent the collapse of Sudan.
He clarified that these U.S. decisions were not new to Sudan, as Sudanese have faced them since 1999. These sanctions have not succeeded in dismantling or collapsing the Sudanese state but have rather strengthened national unity and public support for the leadership.
Aqar emphasized that Al-Burhan is fulfilling his duties to the nation by leading battles on the front lines, assuring citizens that victory is near.
He also criticized the opposition groups, stating that their goal was to serve their political agendas by tarnishing the reputation of the national army and spreading claims about recent violations to destabilize security and sow division between Sudan and its neighbors.
Aqar confirmed the government’s determination to take all necessary legal measures against anyone proven to be involved in violations, stressing that such violations, while possible during war, were individual, unorganized acts that do not represent the army or other state institutions.
He mentioned that the investigation into the events at Kambo Taiba in the Gezira State is already underway, and expressed his appreciation for the Sudanese people and those who have rallied in support of the Sovereignty Council President.
