Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Youssef said on Tuesday that Sudan is looking forward to a positive dialogue and further understanding with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that there are indirect communication channels with the new administration involving American and Sudanese figures.
Youssef told “Asharq” that Sudan has formulated a vision and program to review U.S. policy, emphasizing that they are hopeful that Trump will pay attention to the Sudan file. He said, “We look forward to a positive dialogue and further understandings with the Trump administration, and we hope for attention to the Sudan file and to move the crisis toward its logical conclusion with the victory of the Sudanese armed forces over the militia.”
The foreign minister ruled out an immediate review by the new administration of the sanctions imposed on the head of the Sudanese army, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. However, he said the government intends to request, based on a Sudanese perspective, that the U.S. presidency review and lift the sanctions on Burhan.
He added: “We reject U.S. sanctions, not because they harm Burhan, but because it is unacceptable for the head of the Sovereign Council to be subjected to such measures from any American entity.”
