The Red Cross: A Worrying Pattern of Attacks on Infrastructure in Sudan

Sudan Events – Follow-ups

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) stated that escalating attacks in Sudan by the Rapid Support Forces militia have deprived millions of access to clean water and electricity across the country.

Dorsa Nazemi, head of ICRC operations in Sudan, said in a statement on Monday: “We are witnessing a worrying pattern of attacks on vital civilian infrastructure essential for survival.” She called for the protection of these critical facilities, including power plants, water stations, and dams.

She emphasized that disruptions to electricity and water supplies also negatively impact hospitals, thereby affecting critical healthcare services. She added that the lack of access to clean water “significantly harms public health and greatly increases the risk of cholera outbreaks and other health crises.”
