Minister of Finance Commits to Settling Arrears for the Gedaref Water Project

Finance Minister Dr. Jibril Ibrahim announced the ministry’s commitment to paying the outstanding arrears required to ensure the completion of the remaining work on the Gedaref Water Project. The project had been halted due to the cessation of funding from the Islamic Development Bank, after the completion rate reached approximately 96%.

The minister confirmed, during his meeting with Major General Mohamed Ahmed Hassan, the Governor of Gedaref State, on Thursday, with the participation of Dr. Mohamed Bashar, Undersecretary for Planning at the Ministry of Finance, the importance of the project in line with the state’s priorities to allocate funds to essential and vital services for citizens. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to transferring the state’s share of the revenues collected centrally through the Ministry of Federal Governance.

For his part, the governor reviewed the requirements for completing the state’s water project, as well as other needs, notably the shelters for displaced persons.

Meanwhile, the Undersecretary for Planning explained that the procedures for completing the remaining work on the project are proceeding according to plan, after the contract was signed with the contractor and the arrears were settled.
