To the Soul of the Martyr Mamoun Al-Rashid

Mayada Sawar Al-Dhahab

Just hours before his martyrdom, I received a message from him, asking about our well-being and following the latest news of the public affairs while he was in the midst of battle, surrounded by fire and under the sound of cannons and gunfire. He inquired with compassion about our personal situation, showing concern and a spirit full of confidence, not lacking in humor. At the same time, he sent reassurances and promises of imminent victory and the complete liberation of our homeland.

After his martyrdom, one of his comrades on the frontlines told me that they had made a bet while they were in the Bahri axis on who would reach our old and cherished home in the Al-Hijrah neighborhood of Bahri, the “Mother of Cities,” first.

How we longed to hear from Mamoun the good news of liberation, and to see him as a guest in our home, adding honor and blessing to our lives, alongside his pure and righteous companions. This old home has been a gathering place for loved ones, a meeting point for politics, journalism, and media, a home built with love for the country by my dear father in a long struggle for freedom.

Today, I send my congratulations to him on the liberation of his stronghold, which has become a landmark, a sanctuary for the displaced, and a refuge for those in need. A home that witnessed the funeral of your brave father, Colonel Ibrahim Al-Nour Sawar Al-Dhahab, one of the companions of Field Marshal Ibrahim Abboud and one of his distinguished leaders. This funeral was attended by senior military leaders and high-ranking state officials. This house was a destination for political leaders, intellectuals, scholars, and union leaders, including doctors.

Welcome back to a great home, a house full of life. Congratulations on the history you have written with your own hands and the land that loves you and you love. Live in peace until the victorious return to your family and home. We offer our full support to the armed forces and other regular forces, as well as those mobilized, with our best wishes for a safe return for all those who have been displaced by the war. We pray to God to protect our country and its people, and may we all witness the journey of stability, prosperity, and growth in the land of Sudan.
