Afghanistan: One Killed, One Injured in Shooting at UN Compound

The United Nations mission in Afghanistan announced on Monday that one person was killed and another injured in a shooting at a UN compound in Kabul.

The UN mission said that a Taliban fighter opened fire on a UN security checkpoint on Sunday from outside the perimeter wall of the compound.

The UN mission reported that the security guards contracted by the UN did not return fire, and one international guard was slightly injured and received treatment at a hospital. The body of the Taliban fighter was later found outside the compound.

The UN statement did not clarify the cause of the fighter’s death. Both the UN and the Taliban are conducting separate investigations into the incident. No immediate comment was available from any Taliban officials.

The statement mentioned that guards from the ruling Taliban movement were involved in the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
