Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Energy and Oil Minister Dr. Mohieddin Na’im Mohamed Said stated that the Chinese company CNPC confirmed during his recent visit to China, alongside Sudan’s Sovereign Council President Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, its readiness to inspect the refinery after the war and its commitment to reconstruction.
The minister visited the Khartoum Oil Refinery after it was liberated from the militia’s occupation. He was welcomed by the director-general of the Khartoum Refinery, Alaa Al-Din, and several engineers and technicians.
The minister outlined the scale of the damage, noting that several units within the refinery were affected, confirming the loss of nearly 700,000 barrels of gas oil, equivalent to the capacity of a ship. He said, “Despite the large losses, we found the workers highly motivated to rebuild as quickly as possible.”
The minister instructed the engineering and technical teams to expedite the completion of maintenance and rehabilitation work so that the refinery can resume operations in the near future.
For his part, the director-general of the refinery gave a detailed presentation explaining the extent of the losses to the refinery and its key units. He noted that the destruction was systematic and would require significant effort to restore the refinery to its previous state, which could only be achieved with determination, perseverance, and the efforts of its workforce.
