Sudan Events – Reports
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the international community, particularly the African Union, the United Nations, and the Arab League, to support the roadmap announced by Chairman of the Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on Saturday. The ministry described the roadmap as a national consensus initiative aimed at establishing peace and stability in the country and completing the transitional process.
In a press statement on Sunday, the ministry stated that, “With the ongoing war imposed on Sudan, and after the successes achieved by the armed forces and supporting joint forces, backed by the Sudanese people, as well as the increasing pressure on the rebels across various fronts, the state leadership—following extensive consultations with national and community forces—has put forward a roadmap to prepare for the post-war phase and resume an inclusive political process that will culminate in free and fair general elections.”
The statement explained that the roadmap includes launching a comprehensive national dialogue involving all political and societal forces. It welcomes those who take a patriotic stance, distance themselves from the aggressors, and align with the national cause. Additionally, the plan calls for the formation of a government of independent national technocrats to resume transitional tasks and help the state overcome the consequences of war.
Furthermore, the roadmap outlines necessary amendments to the constitutional document, which will be approved by national and societal forces before the selection of a civilian prime minister to lead the executive branch without interference. It also affirms the principles of freedom of opinion and political activity without undermining national unity or core values, ensuring that no citizen is deprived of their right to obtain a passport.
The roadmap also stipulates that any negotiations with the rebels must be conditional on disarmament and the evacuation of civilian areas. Additionally, it rejects calls for a ceasefire unless the siege on El Fasher is lifted, with any ceasefire to be followed by the withdrawal of rebel forces from Khartoum, West Kordofan, and the Darfur states.
