Suspension of Two Matches After Red Card Against Everton

Dutch coach Arne Slot will be absent from leading Liverpool, the English Premier League leaders, for two matches after his red card against Everton on Wednesday, in a rescheduled match from the 15th round.

Everton prevented their rivals from extending their lead to 9 points over second-placed Arsenal. The gap between the two teams is now only 7 points (57 to 50) in the title race.

Everton’s midfielder, Mali’s Abdoulaye Doucouré, and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones clashed after Doucouré’s loud celebration in front of the Reds’ fans at Goodison Park. Both players were sent off by referee Michael Oliver.

When Liverpool’s coach, Arne Slot, protested the referee’s decision, he was also sent off, along with his assistant, fellow Dutchman Sebastiaan Holshof, after fans entered the pitch, and security and police intervened.

The Premier League released a statement saying: “Liverpool coach Arne Slot was sent off at the end of the Merseyside Derby for using abusive, insulting, or inappropriate language.”

It added: “As a result, he is banned from the touchline for two matches.”

Slot will miss Liverpool’s games against Wolverhampton (on Sunday) at Anfield and Aston Villa in Birmingham on the 19th of this month.

Both Doucouré and Jones received a one-match suspension.
