$300 Million Losses for Al-Gezira University

The administration of Al-Gezira University has revealed the scale of the losses sustained by its various campuses, stating that the losses are estimated at around $300 million.

This comes alongside a visit by a delegation from the university, led by the Deputy Director, to several campuses in the city of Wad Madani. The university delegation visited the Governor of Al-Gezira State, the Secretary-General of the Government, and toured the Nashishiba and Razi campuses.

The Deputy Director of the university, Dr. Tijani Al-Noor, stated that the delegation discussed with the Governor of Al-Gezira several issues related to the resumption of work in all state institutions, including higher education institutions, to enable these institutions to carry out their roles towards the community and their students.
The university delegation also met with leaders of the armed forces and security forces. Dr. Tijani emphasized that the university administration is currently working on preparing the university environment, with directives issued by the university administration to complete urgent tasks.
Dr. Tijani thanked the staff of the Nashishiba campus for their efforts, saying: “The extent of the damage to the campus was significant, but we found the staff working with diligence, hard work, and sincerity.”

The university delegation held a meeting with the preparatory campus committee and addressed the challenges they face before issuing directives to provide the necessary supplies.

For his part, Dr. Yasser Hilal Al-Hashimi, the university’s deputy, revealed the losses suffered by the university’s campuses, explaining that the loss assessment committee estimated the damage between $260 million and $300 million during the militia’s invasion of Wad Madani.
Dr. Al-Hashimi confirmed that, with the collective efforts of all university staff and affiliates, the university will be able to rebuild all its campuses, adding: “We have now called in the university guards, environmental workers, and the engineering administration, and we will call in the rest to participate in the reconstruction of the university and resume work in the university campuses in Al-Gezira State.”
