Playing Open Cards in Addis Ababa

By: Zain Al-Abidin Saleh

The conference held by the UAE on the sidelines of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, under the pretense of assisting the Sudanese people rather than supporting the militia that has destroyed state institutions, has clearly exposed its true intentions. This conference has unmasked the UAE’s role in the conspiracy before the countries involved in its schemes. Additionally, it has revealed the so-called “Resilience Coalition of Multiple Brands.” The presence of both factions within the “Taqaddum” alliance, which claimed to have split due to the formation of a “parallel government,” confirms that the UAE’s conference in Addis Ababa is merely an attempt to distribute responsibilities between the two sides in order to execute its upcoming plans against the Sudanese state.

The conference includes the same key players who organized the IGAD meeting in Addis Ababa in July 2023. At that time, they called for an invasion of Sudan by East African forces, the demilitarization of Khartoum, and a ban on artillery and airstrikes. Now, these same actors have orchestrated this conference in Addis Ababa, with the participation of Chadian Moussa Faki, the outgoing Chairperson of the African Union Commission. The regional alliance against Sudan is still active and continues to implement the UAE’s strategies aimed at rescuing the militia and reintegrating it into both military and political roles alongside its political wing.

The presence of Hamdok and his speech at the UAE-backed conference clearly illustrate the connection between the two parties, exposing the UAE’s control over the militia’s political wing, now rebranded as “Sumood” (Resilience). This coalition lacks any political vision or project; rather, it is merely a tool employed by the UAE to serve its hostile agenda against Sudan, wherever and whenever needed. Shamelessly, Hamdok brought his entire entourage to the conference, proving that everything is now being done openly without any attempt to hide behind pretenses. The UAE has not only recruited the visible figures who appear in certain meetings but has also assembled various groups with different roles assigned to each. These groups previously dreamed of being placed in power by foreign states, but their hopes were shattered as their continuous failures led to the collapse of their plans. Now, only the UAE and, occasionally, Britain remain engaged from behind the scenes.

The primary objective of the “Sumood” alliance is to support the UAE’s strategy of portraying itself as a benefactor to the Sudanese people rather than a sponsor of the militia, thereby absolving itself of responsibility for the war in Sudan and avoiding potential prosecution in international courts. Hamdok’s entourage has reinforced this narrative. However, this conspiracy will not end unless the UAE loses hope in reviving the militia’s role. The fifth column will eventually face the blows of defeat, and the strong unity between the Sudanese people and the army will be the key force countering these hostile schemes. This unity is the wall against which all conspiracies will break, provided that the military leadership adheres to its priorities and does not deviate from them. Defeating the militia, cleansing the country of mercenaries, traitors, and all those serving conspiratorial agendas must be the first, second, and third priority—only then should political matters follow. May God grant us wisdom and foresight.
