Minister of Agriculture Unveils Strategic Plan for Technology Adoption

The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Abu Bakr Omar Al-Bushra, has revealed key aspects of the strategic plan designed to transition from traditional farming to modern technology-driven agriculture. The plan includes the application of technological packages, agricultural extension services, adherence to planting schedules, and the provision of improved seeds. He emphasized the importance of leveraging climate change and increased rainfall to boost production in targeted areas.
Al-Bushra highlighted Sudan’s abundant natural resources, which position the country to achieve food security. He also stressed the need for collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure proper preparation for the summer agricultural season.
Meanwhile, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing the agricultural sector. He emphasized early preparations for the summer planting season, securing local and international financing, and providing essential inputs and modern technology to enhance agricultural operations. He also underlined the importance of increasing productivity per hectare to ensure a successful season and support the state’s ongoing efforts to achieve food security. Dr. Jibril reassured that Sudan has not and will not suffer from famine.
He further highlighted the critical role of local, regional, and global partners in financing small-scale farmers and developing the country’s agricultural production.
The meeting was attended by the Director of the Agricultural Bank, the Governor of the Gezira Project, representatives of seed production and small-scale farmer financing entities, and a representative from the FAO. Additionally, the Director-General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, a representative from the World Food Programme, an IFAD representative, and officials from various states and relevant institutions participated virtually.
