Warnings About the Consequences of China Granting Chad an Import Code for Gum Arabic and Peanuts

Ibrahim Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, Deputy Secretary of the Exporters’ Chamber, revealed that China has adopted an (BFT) import system, under which it has granted Chad a special code for importing gum arabic and peanuts. This comes as 70% of Sudan’s peanuts are smuggled into Chad, along with gum arabic.
In an interview with Al-Ahdath, Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq warned that Sudan risks losing these strategic exports, in which it holds a competitive advantage.
He stated that Sudan has officially informed the Gum Arabic Union that the gum in Chad is actually smuggled Sudanese gum. However, he lamented the reality that gum arabic is being smuggled to Koala, Chad, and South Sudan.
During a meeting with the Minister of Trade and Supply, Omar Banfeer, the exporters called for urgent action against the smuggling of gum arabic and peanuts. They also highlighted the ban on major export companies by the Central Bank, as well as the issue of intermediaries in the export sector, which negatively affects genuine exporters and deprives the state of valuable revenue.
Abu Bakr stated that the Minister of Trade assured them that a high-level exports committee, chaired by him, will address export issues, smuggling, and market losses. However, Abu Bakr stressed the urgency of the situation and urged the relevant authorities to find immediate solutions.
Additionally, he revealed plans for the Commercial Chamber to join the electronic documentation system for certificates of origin in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade. They also pushed for the acceleration of the Origin Rules Law and the integration of the Chamber of Commerce into the ministry’s digital platform.
