Sudanese Army Advances in the West and Repels Drones in the East

A Sudanese military source told Al Jazeera that the army continues to advance in the western part of the country, having regained control of several cities and towns, while early this morning, army air defenses intercepted drones attempting to attack two cities in the east.

The military source said the army regained control of the city of Al-Khuwei in West Kordofan, western Sudan. Local sources reported that army forces also recaptured several towns west of the city of Al-Ubayyid in North Kordofan.

These sources indicated that the army retook control of the towns of Umm Samimah, Al-Ayyarah, and Abu Qoud in North Kordofan after battles with the Rapid Support Forces that lasted several hours.

Meanwhile, Sudanese Sovereignty Council member Abdullah Yahya stated on his “X” account that “the national military formations continue their steady advance today, committed to our promise of fully liberating the homeland from foreign-backed militias.”

In the east, Al Jazeera’s correspondent reported that Sudanese army air defenses intercepted drones early this morning that attempted to attack the cities of Port Sudan in the east and Atbara in the north of the country.

The correspondent noted that drones have been flying over Port Sudan for the seventh consecutive day, but the army’s defenses responded to them. In Atbara — the largest city in River Nile State — eyewitnesses confirmed to Al Jazeera that air defenses intercepted at least three low-flying drones.
