Killings by Militia Fire in Abyei

The “Dinka Abyei” Coordination revealed that the Abyei area has been subjected to repeated attacks by the Rapid Support Forces militia, resulting in the death of several citizens in recent days.

The coordination considered that what is happening represents a direct threat to the security of the local population and the stability of the region.

It also pointed to what it described as the complicity of the United Nations and African Union Joint Forces (UNISFA) with the Rapid Support Forces militia, accusing them of failing to fulfill their role in protecting civilians, despite being mandated to do so. The coordination called for urgent action from both regional and international communities to condemn these violations.

The coordination emphasized its rejection of any administrative or civilian presence affiliated with the South Sudanese government or the Rapid Support Forces within the region, stressing that Abyei remains a demilitarized zone according to the signed agreements.

The coordination also called on the Sudanese government to cancel the mandate given to UNISFA forces, justifying this by their lack of neutrality and their repeated failure in securing civilians.
