The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have intensified their attacks and shelling in both western and eastern Sudan. On Sunday, shelling targeted a market inside a displacement camp in the Darfur region, resulting in the deaths of at least 14 people, according to humanitarian sources.
The Abu Shouk Emergency Room reported that the shelling struck “the Nivasha market and other parts of the camp, including mosques and homes near public facilities.”
They confirmed that “the scale of losses is significant, but due to the poor security situation,” it was difficult to account for “all the victims and injured.”
The Abu Shouk camp is located in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, which remains the last major city under army control. Meanwhile, the RSF controls most of the vast Darfur region in western Sudan.
After being defeated by the army in the capital Khartoum two months ago, the RSF increased its attacks on army positions in and around El Fasher.
Last month, the RSF announced it had taken control of Zamzam Camp, located near El Fasher, following intense assaults that led to hundreds of deaths and the displacement of at least 400,000 residents—many of whom had previously fled to the camp during the ongoing war or from earlier conflicts in Darfur.
