Sudan Notifies Colombia of Presence of One of Its Officers in Conflict Zones in Khartoum

The Sudanese Military Capabilities Platform reported that the relevant authorities have informed Colombia’s Ministry of National Defense (Ministerio de Defensa Nacional) about the presence of a Colombian officer named “Patiño” in Sudan. He was reportedly seen wearing the official uniform of the Colombian Ground Forces, which features the Jungle Camouflage pattern combining shades of green, brown, and black.

The platform announced that a Colombian army member had been spotted on Tuesday in the Salha area, south of Khartoum, describing it as a strange incident that requires urgent verification by the relevant authorities, foremost among them the Sudanese Ministry of Defense.

On Tuesday, the Sudanese army and allied fighters succeeded in liberating Salha and Jebel Aulia — the last strongholds of the Rapid Support Forces militia in Khartoum.

It was previously reported that joint forces in Darfur had detained mercenaries — including Colombians — who were later found to be retired officers recruited by a UAE-linked security company and deployed in conflict zones.

Reports indicate that the officer seen in the area holds the rank of First Lieutenant (Teniente) and wore a military uniform bearing the insignia “EJÉRCITO,” the Spanish word for “army,” clearly referring to the Colombian National Army (Ejército Nacional de Colombia).

According to the information provided by the platform, an official request has been submitted to the Colombian authorities to verify the service record of Officer Patiño and to clarify the nature of his mission in Sudan, amid growing questions about his presence in a highly sensitive military zone.
