The Sudanese Armed Forces announced the discovery of mass graves and a detention center in the Al-Salha area south of Omdurman, after recapturing it from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia following intense battles.
The army and its allied forces managed to establish full control over the Al-Salha area, prompting the declaration that Khartoum State is free of RSF militia presence for the first time since the war broke out nearly two years ago.
According to a statement from the army, a large number of civilians were freed from a school building in the area, which the RSF had been using as a detention center.
The statement noted that the detainees were found in “inhumane conditions,” and army media platforms released a video showing signs of emaciation and malnutrition on the detainees’ bodies.
The statement reported that 648 people had been held in the school, of whom 465 died due to “neglect and lack of food, treatment, and medicine,” and were buried in mass graves discovered at the site.
