Qatari and Jordanian Pledges to Support Sudan’s Health Sector

Sudan’s Minister of Health, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, met with his Qatari counterpart, Minister of Health Mansour bin Ibrahim bin Saad Al Mahmoud, and Jordanian Minister of Health Firas Ibrahim Al-Hawari, on the sidelines of the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva. The meeting was also attended by Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Hassan Hamid.

The meetings focused on bilateral relations between Sudan and both Qatar and Jordan. The Sudanese minister praised the regional and international support Sudan continues to receive in various forums, highlighting joint health projects with Qatar and ongoing communication regarding the post-war phase and the return of several health institutions to operation.

The minister also presented a comprehensive overview of the health situation in Sudan, outlining the extent of destruction caused by the war and its impact on health facilities. He noted the liberation of Khartoum State from the Rapid Support Forces militia and the restoration of health services, thanks to the efforts of the government and international partners.

He emphasized the importance of the upcoming phase, which will require reconstruction and rehabilitation of the health system. The Qatari and Jordanian health ministers expressed their readiness to provide the necessary support to strengthen healthcare services and restore stability to Sudan’s health sector.
