Prime Minister Dr. Kamal Idris has categorically rejected the U.S. accusations that the Sudanese army used chemical weapons, describing them as lacking objectivity and transparency.
In his first press statement, Kamal Idris said:
“We in the Government of Sudan have followed with deep astonishment and regret the United States’ announcement of sanctions against our country, based on claims that lack documented evidence and contradict the principles of justice and fairness, alleging that the Sudanese army used banned weapons in its conflict with the Rapid Support Forces.”
He added:
“We categorically reject these accusations, which lack objectivity and transparency. We affirm that the Sudanese army, as a national sovereign institution, is committed to international humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions, and the principles of civilian protection, despite the complex circumstances imposed by the RSF rebellion and its blatant violations against civilians and infrastructure.”
He continued:
“We are aware that, unfortunately, the international arena has become hostage to biased reports and pressure groups with hidden agendas aiming to distort Sudan’s image and undermine the state’s efforts to restore security and stability. But we remind the United States and the world that national sovereignty is non-negotiable, and the dignity of the Sudanese people is not a bargaining chip in a game of interests.”
He stressed that imposing sanctions at this time, without a fair investigation, constitutes blatant interference in Sudan’s internal affairs and undermines ongoing regional and international efforts to achieve peace. He held those pushing for these sanctions responsible for complicating the Sudanese situation, prolonging the war, and increasing civilian suffering.
He called on the United States to reconsider its stance and to be part of the solution, not part of the crisis, and to open genuine channels of cooperation with Sudan in order to end the war, achieve transitional justice, and build a future worthy of the great Sudanese people.
Idris concluded:
“As for us in the Government of Sudan, we are determined to protect our country, reassert state authority across the entire national territory, rebuild state institutions, and fulfill our people’s aspirations for peace, freedom, and dignity.”
