Khartoum Receives Medical Supplies to Contain Cholera Outbreak

On Sunday, the Ministry of Health in Khartoum State received medical supplies from the National Medical Supplies Fund and the World Health Organization (WHO) to help contain the growing cholera outbreak.

Hospitals in Omdurman, particularly Al-Nau Hospital—which houses one of 13 cholera treatment centers in Khartoum State—have reported overcrowding, with some patients forced to receive treatment on the ground outside the facility.

In a statement, the National Medical Supplies Fund said it had dispatched 150 tons of emergency medical supplies, medicines, and consumables to Khartoum State to combat the cholera outbreak.

The shipment includes 90 tons of intravenous fluids, 30 tons of medications and medical consumables, and cholera treatment kits. An additional 30 tons of IV fluids are also planned for delivery.

The World Health Organization posted on X (formerly Twitter) that it had delivered 15 tons of supplies to the Khartoum State Ministry of Health and Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) to support life-saving operations in the capital.

The WHO added that the medical supplies provided would help treat 58,000 patients suffering from cholera, malaria, dengue fever, as well as those with severe acute malnutrition.
