The Executive Director of Khartoum Locality and Chairman of the Local Security Coordination Committee, Abdel Moneim Al-Bashir, revealed that over 5,000 commercial shops and 16 bank branches were systematically looted in the local and central markets following the rebellion of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
The market was among the first areas to be looted by the militia on the third day of the war. The RSF also repurposed the market as a depot for stolen goods and as barracks for its fighters.
During an expanded meeting with the interim committee of local market traders, attended by Major General Engineer Osman Jumaa Bashir, Commander of the Khartoum Military Zone, Al-Bashir outlined a framework plan involving all regular forces. The plan aims to eliminate lawlessness, negative behaviors, and crime hotspots in the area. It includes a work program that addresses the consequences of the war after the locality’s liberation from the rebellion. He urged all business sectors operating in the market to participate in maintaining security by reporting any suspicious or disruptive activities, noting that a major security overhaul is expected in the coming phase.
For his part, the Khartoum Military Zone Commander praised the resilience of the traders and their unwavering support for the “Battle of Dignity.” He confirmed that the armed forces, after liberating Khartoum, will cooperate with other regular forces in maintaining internal security to eliminate all post-war lawlessness.
