Chairperson of the African Union Commission Welcomes Appointment of Civilian Prime Minister in Sudan

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, expressed his appreciation for the appointment of Dr. Kamal El-Tayeb Idris as Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan.

He praised the development as a step toward inclusive governance and expressed hope that it would contribute meaningfully to ongoing efforts to restore constitutional order and democratic rule in Sudan.

According to a press statement by the AU Commission spokesperson, Youssouf called on all Sudanese parties to intensify their efforts toward a peaceful, civilian, and inclusive transition that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people. He also affirmed the Commission’s readiness to support Sudan in this regard, in cooperation with regional and international partners.

The Chairperson reaffirmed the African Union’s strong commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and stability of Sudan, and to the pursuit of a lasting political solution that ensures peace, development, and democratic governance for all Sudanese.
