According to Africa Confidential, after regaining control of Khartoum, the Sudanese Armed Forces rejected an Emirati proposal for direct negotiations that would have kept the RSF as a weakened entity under army authority.
The report added, “When the army rejected the offer, the UAE changed its approach. Since the attack on Port Sudan, the flow of weapons and equipment from the UAE to the RSF has accelerated.” It continued, “Abu Dhabi may have moved beyond proxy support to direct involvement, according to reports. The drones that targeted Port Sudan were launched from Bosaso in Puntland, Somalia. Another account says intelligence and coordinates were sent from a drone launched from Bosaso or an Emirati warship, while the strikes themselves were carried out by drones launched from Darfur and Kordofan.”
