Sudan Receives Supplies from WHO to Combat Cholera Outbreak

The Sudanese Ministry of Health has received support from the World Health Organization (WHO) – Sudan Office, including medicines and supplies aimed at combating the cholera outbreak. The aid is designated for four states: Khartoum, Northern, River Nile, and Sennar, and includes two fully equipped ambulances.

The handover ceremony was inaugurated on Sunday in front of the quarantine facilities in Port Sudan by Acting Undersecretary Dr. Ismat Mustafa and a representative of the WHO.

Dr. Ismat affirmed that this grant is part of the humanitarian response to the cholera outbreak and praised the vital role of the WHO and its continued support for Sudan, especially in combating epidemics.

He noted that the aid would help cover several states that have recorded cholera cases, expressing hope for continued support to strengthen the health sector.

He added that the WHO, as part of its expanded partnership program, would continue supporting and strengthening the health system in the upcoming phase.

For his part, Dr. Simon Sentus, Deputy Director of Emergencies at WHO – Sudan Office, revealed that the grant is specifically allocated to address the cholera outbreak in the most affected states: Khartoum, Northern, River Nile, and Sennar.

He explained that the support includes medicines and diagnostic kits for cholera treatment, in addition to the provision of two fully equipped medical ambulances. He also stated that WHO has delivered 20 tons of medical supplies to Khartoum State to help combat the cholera outbreak.
