Abdulaziz Abdullah Ahmed, Director of the Land Protection and Violations Removal Agency in Khartoum State, stated that informal housing has long been a major concern for the state of Khartoum.
Speaking on the “Kal Al-Aty” program on Blue Nile TV, he noted that the state has carried out organized campaigns involving the police, a joint force of regular security units, and the Public Prosecution to remove all informal settlements and restore rights to their legitimate owners. He pointed out that there is a well-prepared plan to survey and address informal housing in all localities of Khartoum State, 60% of which has already been implemented. The campaign began in Bahri locality, specifically in Block 19 Halfiya, Block 13 Matari Halfiya, and the Al-Azba area, with ongoing work in the Al-Khayrat area in East Nile locality. Though this area was originally allocated to citizens decades ago—many of whom hold land ownership certificates—it has turned into an informal settlement. He confirmed that all those removed from the Al-Khayrat area did not possess official land ownership certificates.
Abdulaziz further stated that efforts are continuing and will move to Khartoum locality to remove informal housing in the Mandela and Ghubosh areas in southern Khartoum and as far as Jebel Aulia, affirming the state’s ability to reclaim public and private citizen rights.
