Expectations of Increased Return of Sudanese Citizens from Egypt

Sudan’s Consul General in Aswan, Ambassador Abdel Qader Abdullah, confirmed that the return trips of Sudanese citizens to the country have resumed from Greater Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan, and other areas. This follows the continuous victories of the Sudanese army and the defeat of the rebellion since last year.

According to the Sudan News Agency, approximately 290,278 returnees and deportees have returned to Sudan via the Argeen and Ashkeet border crossings between 2024 and mid-June 2025, in addition to those who traveled by air through Port Sudan or to other countries.

He revealed that 75,000 people returned during 2024, while 179,778 departed between January 1 and the end of May. Moreover, 35,500 people returned between June 1 and mid-June 2025 to various states through initiatives by national organizations, community groups, philanthropists, and efforts by expatriates to help their families return. Many also returned voluntarily, either as families or individuals.

The Consul General indicated that a surge in voluntary returns is expected after the Eid al-Adha holiday and following the conclusion of the Sudanese Certificate exams and primary and intermediate school exams being held at various centers in Egypt in the coming weeks.
