Prime Minister Reviews Efforts to Contain the “Cholera Epidemic”

Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris was briefed on the overall health situation in the country, particularly the status of the cholera epidemic and the efforts being made to contain and eliminate the disease. He was also updated on the condition of health institutions in areas affected by the violations of the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.

This came during his meeting with Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, at his office in Port Sudan.

In a press statement, Dr. Haitham said the meeting addressed the country’s urgent health needs, and he presented an update on the cholera outbreak, noting a significant decline in case numbers following extensive intervention efforts.

He added that the Prime Minister issued directives on several key issues, including the rehabilitation of hospitals and health centers across the country—particularly in Khartoum State—alongside prioritizing children’s health and immunization programs, and expediting the recruitment of healthcare workers.
