Sudanese State Adjusts Curfew Hours

The Governor of Sennar State, retired Major General Al-Zubeir Hassan Al-Sayed, issued an emergency order imposing a curfew on all individuals and vehicles within all cities of the state, effective from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM.

The curfew order excludes regular security forces, in accordance with decisions made by the State Security Committee.

It also exempts medical personnel and emergency service workers, provided they obtain the necessary permit from the authority designated by the governor.

This new emergency order cancels the previous order issued on December 17, 2023, which had imposed a curfew from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

The new order stipulates a financial penalty of no less than one million Sudanese pounds for violators. If the fine is not paid, imprisonment for up to one month will be enforced. In the case of repeat offenses, the violator will be sentenced to no less than one month and no more than three months in prison, in addition to a fine ranging from three to five million pounds.

The emergency order instructs executive directors of the state’s seven localities to enforce the decision.
